Knights of Columbus Charities has a distinguished legacy of defending life.  We’ve played a leading role in national and state marches for life since they began. We’ve help place over 1,500 ultrasound machines in local pregnancy centers.  Today, we must continue to lead as defenders of life through our new initiative, ASAP (Aid and Support After Pregnancy). This program will provide support to local pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes allowing them to directly meet the needs of mothers and children in their community. Your gift today to our United in Charity Fund allows us to answer growing needs and allows us to be agile and adapt if needed.

This fraternal year, the Knights of Columbus pledge $5M in support of local pregnancy centers, maternity homes, and other organizations that give direct assistance to new mothers and their babies. Our first step in reaching this goal is to raise $1M by August 31. To date we are nearly 20% of the way there.

People often say that pro-lifers only care about babies, but as this initiative demonstrates, we are there for mother and child. The need is great.  To Contribute to KoC Charity:

 Put this on your calendar:  our End-Of-Year Celebration June 6th. Dinner will begin soon after the 5:30 daily Mass and is being held at the St. Philip Hall. The cost is $20/person. It is open to ANY woman from our parish. Please RSVP so we can have an accurate count for the caterer. 

     - If you can help collect the RSVP's after the Masses this coming weekend and the next, please let me know. (At this time, there is no way you can do this via the church website.) If somehow you miss signing up after Mass, please email me or Nikki F at [email protected]      

     - You can pay in advance or at the door, just be sure to RSVP first!

     - RSVP Deadline is Sunday, June 4th. 

     - Set up begins at 10:00 AM Tuesday the 6th (day of our dinner)

     - If you would like to learn how to use our nifty dishwasher or where the dishware belongs, let me know and we'll get you on the clean up list. Thanks!

 

Trees - This Sunday is Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit descended in wind and tongues of fire upon the heads of all present in the Upper Room. This is  where they waited in prayer for nine days (often considered the first NOVENA). The color for this feast is RED. Notice the base of the trees, the banners, flowers and even Father's vestments are RED. Feel free to wear RED to celebrate the birthday of our holy Catholic Church.       

     - Those of you who purchased one of the flowering trees  that have graced the Sanctuary, be prepared to take your tree home after the 10:00 Mass on Sunday. It needs the sun and weather! 

 

The Sew & Social group meets one.last.time. on Tuesday, May 30th at 10:00. We will then rest through the summer, crafting on our own so as to be prepared for the Christmas Bazaar this coming winter. 

 

Congratulations to our Confirmandi! It took two years of study and a retreat , shepherded by Betty S. Another job well done! It was great to see so many families attend. Archbishop Vlazny was assisted by Father Peter Julia (Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese), Father Kiko and our own Father Michael (who efficiently guided the altar servers and others). 

     - Many, many thanks to those who stepped up to prepare and clean up the Hall for the reception. The Confirmandi from St. Patrick's in Independence joined our group for the beautiful and solemn Mass on Tuesday, May 23 and then later filled the hall to almost overflowing. The Charismatic group from St. Patrick's provided the food, which was fabulous. Our Altar Society volunteers kept things moving along smoothly while a group of parish volunteers did the dishes. It was a joyful and exciting evening. Check out our website to see some photos of the event.

 

School is almost out for the summer.  Many prayers for the safety and good health of all students, and school staff!
